Deck Shoes, Boat Shoes, What’s The Difference?
Both intended for boating adventures these slip-on leather shoes are designed to provide a supportive fit with proper traction on wet and slippery surfaces. There’s no real difference between the two shoe names, we use the terms interchangeably. The first deck shoe was supposedly invented in the 1930s by Paul Sperry after falling overboard while sailing around Long Island. The aim was to create a shoe suitable for wet conditions, making slits in rubber soles to provide greater grip while on deck.
Styling Slip On Deck Shoes
Deck shoes are perfectly versatile and offer comfort and style in warmer summer months. Light, breathable and effortlessly stylish - although originally designed for boating, the deck shoe has become synonymous with elevated-casual-summer attire. Easy to wear, style your boat shoes for casual occasions or dress them up with smart trousers and a shirt for events that require more formal or dressier attire.
If you prefer to model your deck shoes on dry land while still sporting the classic nautical style, choose chinos, linen trousers or shorts and a crisp polo shirt. Style dark jeans with an untucked button shirt to provide the ultimate relaxed fit for the weekend. A blazer, button shirt and slim-fit jeans matched with your slip-on deck shoes provides the perfect attire for workdays or a relaxed weekend brunch.
